Can a change in fortune see England win back-to-back tests in the West Indies?

England’s victory in Grenada last week was their first win in another country since 2012, which handed them a deserved 1-0 lead in the series.

The performance will have given the side a much needed confidence boost, due to the circumstances in which they claimed victory. On the final day England needed eight wickets to bowl West Indies out and then come into bat to finish the job, a task that seemingly looked to be out of reach. However, the team pulled together brilliantly to silence some of the doubters in recent months.

The side will now go into the final test in Barbados buoyed by their efforts in Grenada and should finish off the series 2-0 winners, weather permitting. With their renewed confidence and optimism, they have enough big game players in the side that can clinch victory for them, not to mention the unstoppable Jimmy Anderson at their disposal.

The praise has been ringing out for Jimmy since his excellent performance in the last test between the two sides, where he managed to take three wickets, two catches and also claim a run out on the final day. He was also England’s leading wicket taker throughout the whole test, taking six in total.

Jimmy also managed to surpass Ian Botham’s wicket taking record during the test, to statistically become England’s greatest bowler of all time. He has been their saving grace in recent test matches and will undoubtedly carry that great form on in Barbados.

In fact it is with the bat that England have struggled in recent tests, although in their victory last week the top order finally managed to put in some strong performances. Most importantly, captain Cook put in two good innings scoring 76 and 59 not out, a pleasing sight for all English cricket fans.

However, it was Joe Root that stole the show with his impressive score of 182 not out in the first innings, making sure that his excellent form for the test side lives on. You would certainly fancy him to continue his hot streak again this weekend, and help guide England to an overall series win.
